1. JOSEPH W1 MOORE was born September 29, 1835 in Ireland, and died January 24, 1914 in Oberlin, allen, Louisiana. He married ELIZA B Unknown in ?. She was born August 23, 1839 in Alabama, and died March 11, 1883 in Sugartown, Beauregard, Louisiana.

He died 24 Jan 1914 in Oberlin, La

She appeared before Clerk of Court P E Moore (their son - probably Patt) on 9 Dec 1914.

She was 67 years old at time of application.

She was a resident of Oberlin, La

His date of enrollment was Apr 1861in New orleans, La.

He served until the end of the war. Surrendered at Natchitoches, La.

He was 2nd Lt and then resigned to be Quarter master Seargent.

He married Nancy Ann Harper 15 Sept 1885 in Lake Charles, La. Justice Moses officiated.

Her Property value was 75.00.

Witnesses were:

David Cole - Oberlin, La - knew her for 20 yrs

John W Rhorer - Oberlin, La - knew her for 25 yrs.

She signed the application.

War Dept Records state that he enrolled as a pvt 23 Apr 1862, was on the roll of field and staff from July to Oct 1862. Was captured at Vicksburg 4 jul 1863, was exchanged at Shreveport 1 Apr 1864. No further records exist.

Her pension ws rejected 23 april 1915 because did not file affadavits.

A letter included:

To Mr. Dear Fullerton, La

Dear sir yours of recent date in hand will say ingards to my old friend Joe Moore that he enlisted in the war in April 1861 in Capt J T Hatches co was mustered into service in New Orleans in April 1861 was 2nd lieutenent in Capt Hatches Co Company C was his company he resigned hid office of lieutenent and was quarter master seargent of our redgement our redgement was 27th La redgement Colonel Marks was our colonel of the 27th redgement

Colonel Marks was killed during the siege of Vicks burg and he ws killed and Norwood was our Colonel when we surrendered on the fourth day of july 1863 and was parolled on the 7th day of July 1863 he then was exchanged and then went into service in La at the close of war we were quarted at Natchitoches, la I will give you the names of some of our Co H L sanders of DeRidder, Billy Hillman of Boalton, La well there is not many that I know ????? now Mr. dear any assitance I can be in getting Mrs. Moore a pension I am more than willing to assist if you put in her claim you can sign my name to it for me if I ever had a friend poore old Joe was one so nothing more yours with best wishes.

A letter from Commissioner of records 29 April 1915 to P e Moore

Replying to yours of the 26th inst for the record of your father in the Confederate service, beg to advise you that as you did not give the christian name or initials of your father, but as col Brian in his letter to your mother stated he was a member of Co C 27th La Infty., we found that there was a J W Moore belonging to this company.

J W Moore enlisted 23 April 1862 at New Orleans, La for the war as a pvt in Co C. 27th La Reg and subsequently appears as QMS.

He reported at Shreveport, La April 1, 1864 for exchange. The parole lists as copied from the official records on file in the war Dept show that J W Moore Lt. and AQM. 27th La Infty.; was paroled at Alexandria 6 June 1865

There is a check on file for 30.00 with her death - died april 17, 1865

Mrs. Mollie Iles of Sugartown was listed as Mrs. moore's heir and only heir.

1860 J W , Eliza, John, and Adeline were living in rapides Parish. John and Adeline are probably twins because they have the same age.

1870 Joseph W, Eliza B, Adeline, Isadora, Mayo and Daniel live in the Anacoco Ward of Rapides Parish.

1880 Joeph W, Eliza B, Adaline, Isadora, Mayo, daniel, Joseph, Patt, and May live in the Calcasieu ward of Rapides Parish.
